2025 Subaru BRZ: What’s New?
2025 Subaru BRZ
The Subaru BRZ is rumored to be entering its third generation year.
With its twin brother, the Toyota GR86, the BRZ goes back to simpler times, when all you needed to have fun was a dashing four-cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive, and three pedals on the floor.

But buyers will still find the technology and comfort expected from a modern car.
Given last year’s completely redesigned, it’s no surprise that BRZ enters 2025 with many changes.
The automatic version of the twin sports cars GR86 and BRZ is equipped with advanced safety aids.
The manual version will probably lose almost everything – including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), which is installed in most other new cars.
Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) will become mandatory for all new passenger cars in Australia (and possibly also in the United States) from March 2025 – putting the future of manual twins Toyota and Subaru in doubt if they cannot be equipped with the technology.
The GR86 and BRZ advanced Subaru provide safety suites under the EyeSight brand – but like the new WRX sports sedan, the Japanese automaker has yet to develop an autonomous emergency braking system that can work with a manual transmission.
Toyota’s other manual performance cars – the GR Supra, GR Yaris, and GR Corolla – are equipped with AEB, as the safety package was developed in-house by Toyota, or its Supra joint-venture partner, BMW.
If Subaru and Toyota cannot develop an AEB system for their twin sports cars, they will no longer be able to meet the Australian Design Regulations – a rule that all new vehicles must meet – after March 1, 2025.
Subaru BRZ Price
The price for the Premium trim level of the BRZ coupe is $28,595, plus the cost of the destination.
The Premium Limited model starts at $31,095. The automatic transmission adds $1,500 to the price of the Premium variant.

Is the Subaru BRZ a future classic?
It is a true modern classic, with a build quality that allows owners to modify their vehicles to their liking.
Mazda Miata is the only other sports car on the market that comes close to the accessibility of the BRZ/GT86. That is already regarded as a classic in and of itself.
Why a BRZ is better than a WRX?
Both versions are lovely, but depending on your needs, one may fit your lifestyle better.
The Subaru WRX is a larger model with more interior room and ground clearance, while the Subaru BRZ is lower to the ground and has the classic sports car appearance with its sleek, coupe body shape.
Is the BRZ faster than the WRX?
From slowest to quickest, the original BRZ produced 205 horsepower and accelerated from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 6.2 seconds. The fourth generation WRX (2014-2021) has 268 horsepower and can go from 0-60 mph in 6.0 seconds.
Is Subaru BRZ or Toyota 86 better?
Despite having equal power, weight, and tire options, the Toyota GR86 narrowly outperformed the Subaru BRZ on the test track, achieving 60 mph in 5.8 seconds as opposed to 5.9 seconds for the BRZ.
What’s faster, a Miata or a BRZ?
In terms of acceleration, the Miata RF and BRZ are pretty rapid. In Edmunds’ testing, the Miata RF with a manual transmission reached 60 mph in 6.6 seconds. A BRZ with a manual transmission was even quicker: 6.1 seconds. Both vehicles have automatic transmissions.
