The new engine will get the latest direct-injection technology that will improve fuel efficiency, which is why Subaru is overhauling its engine range. We already know about the Ascent 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that is likely to drive the next-generation Subaru WRX STI performance car.
2022 Subaru Crosstrek Turbo
When the fully refurbished Crosstrek arrived in 2018, it entered the scene with a rougher design than the majority of subcompact SUVs in the class. The sturdy front end design with bumper body cladding, chunky fenders, and high travel height gives Crosstrek a sturdy look.
The rear of the Crosstrek is more curved than the front end, while the rear bumper has similar rough elements. The 2022 model should maintain the same design as the current Crosstrek.
The next engine is Subaru’s latest 1.8-liter FA18 direct-injection Boxer engine that will power the new second-generation Levorg hatchback. This Sport wagon model is likely only sold in Japan, parts of Asia, Europe, and Australia.
The big news is that the third engine will be a newly developed 1.5-liter direct-injection Boxer engine that will replace the naturally envisioned 2.0-liter Boxer that currently powers the Crosstrek subcommittee SUV and the Impreza sedan and hatchback models.

Crosstrek’s interior has the same rugged-forward motif as the exterior, which is expected to remain the same for the 2022 model year. The simple cab has an intuitive layout for HVAC controls, while the uncluttered dashboard display focuses on the touchscreen.
Crosstrek will continue to come with more durable materials than easy-to-clean rivals and highlight its rugged character.
Technically, Crosstrek 2022 is expected to come with the same 6.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility as standard. Bluetooth, USB ports, and a four-speaker audio system will also become standard.
Optional features will include an 8-inch touchscreen, four USB ports, an eight-speaker audio system, Wi-Fi hot spots, and satellite radio.
The report said Subaru Corporation is increasing 80 percent of its global production with smaller direct-injection turbocharged Boxer engines by 2021. Subaru Outback, Ascent, and Legacy models have been equipped with smaller 2.4-liter turbocharged engines. The next-generation WRX, WRX STI, and BRZ will next get new engine upgrades.

The higher trim will come with a 2.5-liter flat-four rated at 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. Larger engines are only available with CVT. All-wheel drive will continue to be standard.
Subaru Crosstrek Features
Crosstrek currently comes with a rearview camera as standard. Available safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane guard assistance, rear traffic warning, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning.
IIHS has not yet tested Crosstrek 2021. In NHTSA testing, subcompact SUVs received five-star overall safety ratings.
2022 Subaru Crosstrek Turbo Release Date and Price
No information is available on Crosstrek’s official 2022 release date. The new model year is expected to arrive in summer of 2021.
Prices will not be announced until next year, but the Subaru Crosstrek 2022 range will remain close to the current model. Expect prices to start at $23,295 with a goal and rise to $29,045.
