New 2022 Subaru Legacy Turbo Colors
2022 Subaru Legacy Turbo
2022 Subaru Legacy Turbo – Like the Outback, Legacy offers standard all-wheel drive and your choice between a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine or a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine but eliminates the illusion of toughness that supports traditional family sedan styles.
Legacy cabins are spacious, stocky, and comfortable, but luggage can’t hold as much outback wagon cargo. It shares the same market with some of our favorite sedans, including the Honda Accord, Mazda 6, and Toyota Camry— all offering similar practicality, a higher driving spirit, and a sharper style.
2022 Subaru Legacy Turbo
Like the Outback station wagon, Legacy will probably receive three updates for 2022. Adaptive headlights are now standard, and Subaru has added a passenger seat belt warning and rear seat warning feature.

2022 Subaru Legacy Turbo Engine
The horizontally opposite 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is standard and produces 182 horsepower. The Limited XT and Touring XT models come with a 2.4-liter turbocharged 260 hp engine. All Legacy models have all-wheel drive and continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
We’ve tested both engines now, and what a difference the turbo makes: The Touring XT manages to reach 60 mph in just 6.1 seconds while the non-turbo Sport takes a lackluster 8.0 seconds. Regardless of which engine is under the hood, the new Legacy offers slightly better handling dynamics over the last generation and similar driving.
Fuel Economy
Non-turbo cars achieved higher fuel economy estimates than the EPA — 27 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and a combined 30 mpg — but turbocharged models didn’t miss out, at 24 mpg cities, 32 mpg highways, and 27 mpg combined.
In our real-world 200-mile highway fuel-economy test, both powertrains produced 34 mpg, one mpg shorter than the Accord 2.0T result. It is said that the Subaru and Honda pale in comparison to the 2.5-liter Camry SE, which produces an impressive 45 mpg.
2022 Subaru Legacy Turbo Interior
While measurements may not show it, the Legacy cab feels much larger than the last generation model, especially on the back. While the design is still negative, legacy interiors are functional, with well-chosen materials throughout.
Upholstery is standard, but high-end Limited and Touring models have leather. The front seat is well sculpted and comfortable, and on the top trim, it features manual thigh extensions for the driver’s seat — an advantage for long-legged buyers.
The luggage was oversized and accommodated eight carry-on suitcases in our tests, one more than the Accord and two more than the Camry.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The base model uses a version of Subaru’s Starlink infotainment system featuring a 7.0-inch dual screen. The one-level Premium model has its latest 11.6-inch vertical-oriented infotainment screen that looks like Volvo’s borrowed.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are standard; while navigation on the dashboard is only legal on Limited XT and Touring XT models, it’s optional on all but Legacy basic. The four-speaker stereo is standard, the Premium and Sport models come with a six-speaker setup, and anything on it gets a Harman/Kardon 12-speaker audio system.
Safety Features
The Subaru Legacy is a great choice when it comes to security. The NHTSA gave it five stars, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named it the Top Safety Option after analyzing accident eligibility. All Legacy models are equipped with a Subaru EyeSight driver assistance feature set. Key security features include:
- Standard automatic emergency braking;
- Standard lane departure warning with lane maintenance assistance;
- Common adaptive roaming control with lane-centering capabilities.
2022 Subaru Legacy Turbo Release Date and Price
As of when this article was published, Subaru had not released any information on when it planned to release Legacy 2022. We expect a summer or early fall 2021 sale date.
Legacy 2022 is still unclear. Without the expected change, the price should remain close to the current model range. Currently, Legacy starts at $23,820 and rises to $35,370.
