It was unveiled overnight at the New York Motor show ahead of an Australian showroom arrival at the end of 2019 or early 2020. As with Subaru Impreza, Subaru XV and Subaru Forester, the new Outback is based on the Japanese company’s new generation of global architecture.

That means it will come with the latest crash avoidance and driver technology glitches, as well as equipped with a large vertical tablet-style touchscreen in the center of the dashboard, and available with 360 degrees “around the display ” camera.

In addition to the roomier cabin with more space for the front and rear occupants, the cargo room has grown almost two meters in length with the rear seat kept flat, to create more than 2100 liters of carrying capacity.

The comforts and conveniences offered include 10-way power adjustments for driver seats, USB charging ports for front and rear seats, and rear air vents.

In North America, The Subaru Outback will be offered with an updated version of the current 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine (135kW/238Nm) or a turbocharged 2.4-liter petrol engine optional (194kW/375Nm).

Both are suitable for continuous automatic transmission variables and all-wheel-drives. Prices and equipment are not yet confirmed for Australia but the selected technical details have been revealed.

In the US, the Turbo 2.4 traction capacity is rated at 1500kg, just as the crane rating for the current model 2.5 is sold in Australia.

In comparison, the current model of the 3.6-liter six-cylinder can transport 1800kg, while the traction capacity of the existing 2.0-liter Diesel is rated at 1700kg.

However, it is unlikely that six cylinders or diesel will be offered in a new model in Australia.

The new efficiency of the four-litre 2.5-liter has Subaru claimed more than 900km of the highway driving Range on a single tank in the US, but fuel consumption data has not been counted for the Australian model.
