2022 BRZ Rumors: The Future of Electric Cars

2022 BRZ Rumors: The Future of Electric Cars –  There has been speculation about the next generation of Toyota and Subaru small Rear-wheel-drive sports cars over the years, and we are now our first official word of Toyota that the second generation Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ are happening in real.

The announcement is part of Toyota’s commitment to further partnerships with Subaru, including the development of future electric cars.

We are mostly interested in sports cars, though, and we already know quite a lot about the upcoming sports cars already. A rumor from last year suggests that the new model will use the turbocharged Subaru 2.4-liter flat-four seen in climbing, Legacy, and Outback.

Subaru BRZ Powertrain

It makes 260 HP and 277 lb-ft torques in climbing, which will make for meaningful repairs over the current 86/BRZ’s naturally disseminated 2.0-liter flat-four with up to 205 HP and 156 lb-ft of torque.

There’s no official word on the drivetrain, but we’d be surprised if Toyobaru’s new coupes don’t come standard with Rear-wheel drive and manual transmissions. This may mean they will climb on the latest version of the current architecture, though it is possible that they will migrate to the Rear-wheel-drive TNGA (Toyota’s new global architecture) underpinnings. Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada allowed a slip to an Australian motor recently that he believed the new 86 would be “better than Supra,” although we weren’t sure what he meant by it.

There is also a new word 86 and BRZ will have a much more driver-assist system available as an option, which may be less appealing to driving enthusiasts but following the trends of other new sports cars like the 992-generation Porsche 911.

There has been the talk of 86 next-generation and BRZ first appeared in the draft form soon, with some outlets reporting that we can see the car soon after the Tokyo Auto Show next month. C/D spoke to Toyota’s spokesperson Nancy Hubbell, who canceled the rumors, but revealed surprisingly wouldn’t be entirely out of the realm of possibilities. Toyota added Hakone special Edition with attractive green paint, while BRZ 2020 continues on unchanged
