New Subaru WRX STI 2021 Redesign
Fans of the current-gen WRX STI will see that this design is more evolutionary than revolutionary. Despite the impressive performance-car rally and giant Wing trademark, the STI is still a Subaru. That means that the basic style and overall design language will be quite conservative.
That’s not a bad thing. The WRX & STI always remain faithful to their roots: a box with four doors, all-wheel drive, Turbo, and not much else. While the current generation car is the smoothest version ever, it’s still the same basic recipe we’ve been loved since 2004 (or 1997, for those of us who grew up in Gran Turismo).

What might be under the next IMS Hood? While we’ve heard the buzz of hybrid power in Next-Gen WRX, we hope that STI finally gets a hot-rodded version of the FA20DIT engine seen at WRX at the moment.
While we love the classic EJ25 engine in STI nowadays, its poor low-end, poor fuel economy and overall high-stringed characters make a bad choice for a road car. However, we will miss the trademark EJ exhaust rumble that comes from the long headers are not the same. The sound is strikingly absent in 2015 and up FA20DIT powered WRXs.

We hope that STI production is similar to our rendering. While the descendants of the current Subaru homologation heroes are not the fastest or the smoothest sports cars out there, we still love them, especially in the face of rapid automotive shifting markets. Driving WRX or STI in this day and age is like visiting your hometown, finding your favorite pizza together still in business, and grabbing a piece. It will take you back – and it’s still as good as you remember.
