2020 Subaru WRX STI S209 USA Release Date – In the 15 years, it was already available in the United States, the Subaru WRX STI only seen risen from 300 horsepower to 310. Back in 2004, 300 horsepower in a small, all-wheel-drive sedan is a big problem, but now? Less so, that is why people have been asking for IMS with more power over the years. Finally, Subaru has been delivered.

At the Detroit Auto Show, Subaru is exhibiting the 2020 WRX STI S209, which serves up to 341 horsepower of the 2.5-liter flat-four. Yes, Subie Bros, who S209 proves that there is still life in the old EJ25. The increased power comes from new HKS turbochargers with larger turbines and compressors from Turbo standard STI and increases boost pressure. The machine gets a forged piston and a connecting rod for extra strength, and to help create a lighter rotating assembly.

We are about 70 miles southwest of Tokyo on the base of the Fuji International Speedway. Yoshihide Yano puts his hands on the camouflaged carbon fiber roof of the 2020 Subaru WRX STI S209 Prototype we will drive and smile. “It will never make a business case,” says the assistant manager of the Subaru North American Department of Business Planning. “We don’t want to make more than 250. The more we make, the more money we lose. “

From his co-worker WinCE, Yano is clear from the manuscript, but his statement is not a big surprise. Building STI S209 is very complicated and time-consuming, with most of the extensive engine, hand-mounted aerodynamic suspension and modifications outside of the small STI headquarters outside of the Toyko location. Established in 1988, Subaru Technica International is a division of automotive Sports and employs only 120 people. It can produce only two cars a day.

Subaru also upgraded EJ with a new intake system, a new fuel pump, and a new injector. Like the first IMS coming to the United States, S209 got a driver-controlled water spray system to help keep the intercooler, eh, cool. It is activated by the paddle at the rear of the steering wheel. The Drive mode and center differential have been reworked, but as always, the only transmission option is a six-speed manual.

And why not show off your fastest street car in world-class Fuji 2.8-mile road course? Especially today, while the tracks are packaged to an annual STI Motorsports Day, the annual pilgrimage to a loyal brand. The place is inundated with WRXs, BRZs, and our models do not get in America such as the IMS Levorg Sport, a hot rod version of the mid size wagon.

Although the new Super GT and Nürburgring racing cars have made a hot lap on the main circuit, our unexplainable journey of S209 (which is fully revealed at the Detroit Auto Show) is on a small half-mile road tucked in the corner Remote Fuji large areal. And we get only three laps.

The engineers at STI did not stop at the machine, though. The S209 is 1.7 inches wider than regular IMS with a 0.6-inch increase in Track width. It is allowed to 265-part tires in the standard place of 245s. Those Dunlop tires were GT600As ordered first for this car, and the 19×9-inch wheels forged a BBS alloy, naturally painted gold.

The S209 gets a new Bilstein shock, rigid spring back-thicker Bar, and additional braces and drawer hardening for the front-rear and back subframe. There is a flexible turret buffer, consisting of two steel rods connected in the center by the joint of the Bush ball. The idea here is that this Bar helps rigid car laterals, reducing Body roll while allowing for a little longitudinal Flex to help better travel quality.

IMS S-line of cars has been the most capable brand engine since S201 launched at 2000, but S209 will be the first S-Line model sold in the USA – and exclusively in the United States, in this case. It will also be the first S-Line WRX that will not be supported by a modified version of the brand 2.0-liter EJ20-litre family engine, which the Subaru introduced in 1989. The company said EJ20 was unable to meet emissions and made more than 300 horsepower on our low octane fuels. The fix for this is the version of the EJ25 series turbocharged, which has been powered every US-spec WRX STI since we got it at 2003.

To make S209, STI engineers started by mixing certain parts of both the S208 and 310-HP WRX STI RA Subaru for sale in America last year. Recaro S209 ‘s seat and carbon fiber roof are divided by RA and mounted in the assembly line along with the enclosed steering wheel of S208 ‘s Alcantara.

The new brake, too, consists of a Cross-drilled steel rotor with a six-piston caliper in front and two-Pistons on the back, all of which are derived from Brembo.

In addition to these actions taken to enhance the mechanical Grip, Subaru works on upping The Aero Grip. Of course, there is a large carbon fiber wing that is loosened into the trunk, but there are also diving and ventilation planes on the front and rear Fender. The roof is made of carbon fiber, which will help to lose weight and center of gravity.

This car received many of its modifications by STI itself after leaving the assembly line, which means production will be limited. Only 200 units, all allocated to the United States, in fact. The only color available is the Crystal White Pearl with the golden wheels you see here, and the black WR MICA, which is somehow only offered with a gray wheel. It seems like massive surveillance, Subaru.

The 2.5-liter Redline is 7,200 RPM, the same as in RA, and a fixed compression ratio of 8.1:1, but STI has increased power with a larger Turbo to further enhance, high intake airflow that has a 5-percent larger diameter, and 20 Percent more refueling thanks to the higher fuel flow pumps and new injectors. Increasing the increase from 16.2 psi in the RA type to 18 psi here, and STI fits the strong forged piston and connecting rods in the factory to handle the additional power.

2020 Subaru WRX STI S209 USA Release Date, Subaru claims 341 HP at 6,400 rpm and 330 lb-ft torque at 3,600 rpm, which is a heck of a lot more than either the RA type or the S208 kicked out. The RA type is good for 310 HP and 290 lb-ft, and S208 is a little stronger with 324 HP and 319 lb-ft. That said, the number S209 is temporary, because, as Yano quickly pointed out, the certification of S209 ‘s is still pending with the EPA for MPG, emissions and OBDII.

On a tight half-mile path, it draws strongly from about 3,000 RPM to the Redline and uses a second, third, and fourth gear managing 90 mph in the fourth at the end of the short front straight. It’s about the same speed we achieved at the higher revving S208 in the third tooth.

Subaru did not offer a time 0-60 mph for S209 as the test was underway, but Hasegawa said it would be the fastest Subaru ever and he hoped for a time under 4.5 seconds. It will be more than a second faster than STI RA.

Although Hasegawa says this will not be the last IMS to get a manual transmission, it recognizes the car will be faster as well as faster on the race track with an automatic, dual clutch or otherwise. The S209 ‘ s Top-Mount intercooler is another part of the legacy engineering STI engineers want to change but can’t because of the cost and reality of other companies. A larger front Mount unit would be much more efficient and allow engineers to find more power.

A Partial Band-Aid For this problem is the intercooler S209. S water spray system, which is mounted by STI and powered by a steering paddle shifters. Unfortunately, we could not test the benefits during our Test drive which was very short.

STI also installed the S209 ‘ s Aero package, which uses the same large customizable Spoiler rear as RA along with the new rocker Spoiler and low rear under spoiler behind the rear tire. The ventilation behind the rear tires, which says STI pressure release in the wheels well, is from the S208 Nürburgring Edition. Subaru said S209 has more downforce but refused to get more specific.

2020 Subaru WRX STI S209 Price

Subaru has not announced the price, but expect it to be quite a bit more expensive than the $50,000 type RA that came out last year. All these changes are significant, though, so S209 may be worth whatever Subaru costs to it.
