All-New 2023 Subaru Forester Offered with Turbo Hybrid Drivetrain

2023 Subaru Forester Offered with Turbo Hybrid Drivetrain

2023 Subaru Forester – The next-generation Subaru Forester will offer a hybrid drivetrain featuring two electric motors and a small turbo Atkinson cycle petrol engine.

One of the electric motors will likely be used to start the engine and recharge the installed battery. In contrast, the second motor will be larger, more powerful, and can drive the car either alone or along with the gasoline engine.

Coupled with a turbocharged gasoline engine, it’s likely the new hybrid drivetrain will answer many criticisms of the current e-Boxer hybrid system available in the Forester and XV.

According to the Japanese magazine Mag-X, the next-generation Subaru Forester is imminent. It is expected to debut in 2023 and will surprisingly use Toyota’s hybrid engine technology.

The all-new Forester is rumored to be debuting in 2023, which makes sense given the recent facelift. Subaru is also adding a new Wilderness trim to the range, making it better than ever.

Today, Subaru and Toyota have had a solid partnership since the original 86 and BRZ. The coalition expanded to include the new GR 86 and BRZ and even an electric SUV designed side by side. The Subaru version was called the Solterra, while Toyota chose the name bZ4x.

Subaru is expected to equip the Forester with a complete hybrid system. The report suggests that the hybrid powertrain will combine two electric motors and a gasoline engine based on the Atkinson cycle.

The Next Forester will be offered with a permanent AWD in a typical fashion, not forgetting its off-road credentials.

At the same time, larger batteries and improved hybrid powertrain efficiency will allow for much lower emissions and fuel consumption ratings than the current generation.

The fifth-generation Subaru Forester launched in 2018 and received a facelift in 2021 with the benefit of a redesigned face, new trim options, smoother driving, and improved safety equipment.

2023 Subaru Forester Engine

The SUV is offered with a lightweight hybrid 2.0-liter e-Boxer engine that produces 148 hp (110 kW/150 PS), but in the U.S., customers get a more powerful but thirstier 2.5-liter boxer engine.

It produces 182 hp (184 PS / 135 kW). Japanese buyers also get the option of a turbocharged 1.8-liter engine that produces 174 hp (130 kW/177 PS).

2023 Subaru Forester Design

Despite being the same size, the new Forester is not expected to share a platform with the Toyota RAV4. While it made financial sense, it would move Forester too far from the off-road capabilities attached to it.

The RAV4 is a great SUV, but Subaru’s global platform is one step ahead. However, hybridization can come from the RAV4 Prime plug-in.

Subaru is likely to stick with its permanent all-wheel-drive formula, which made it a massive success in sales in the U.S. However, the current engine is the generation behind, and that’s where Toyota can help.

The Forester cabin is a straightforward affair, frill-free with a good driving position and good outside visibility.

The interior of our Touring model is slickly finished with caramel-colored leather on the seats, door panels, and dashboard; The textured plastic trim layered throughout the cabin looks and feels high quality, too, while the shiny black plastic in the middle pile and chrome and matte-metal plastic trim tidy things up pretty well.

The back seats are pretty spacious (there is no third-row option), and even adults should feel comfortable seating bench seats for road trips.

We loaded 11 of our carry-on suitcases behind the back seat and 23 suitcases with folded back seats.

That’s more than the CX-5 or RAV4 can deploy, but the CR-V maximizes 25 pieces of luggage with its rear seats stored.

Infotainment and Connectivity

All Forester models come standard with a touchscreen infotainment system using Subaru’s latest Starlink interface.

Base, Premium, and Sport models come standard with 6.5-inch screens, but larger 8.0-inch units are optional on Sport and standard on Limited and Touring models.

Two USB ports are provided for front-seat passengers; The other two are optional and are on the back of the center console, giving rear-seat passengers a way to charge their smartphones.

Navigation is optional, but for those who decide to stick with the lower model, Apple’s CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities are standard.

They can provide turn-by-turn directions from the user’s device. Onboard Wi-Fi over a 4G LTE data connection is standard in all but basic Forester.

2023 Subaru Forester Features

Subaru will probably refresh its Forester SUV for 2023 with more blocker-looking headlights, a reworked grille, and a new wheel design.

Wilderness trim joins the ranks, and, like the outback wilderness, it adds additional ground clearance and a sturdy display package.

Inside, the forester benefits from new optional motion control for climate control systems and panoramic sunroofs as standard fixtures on all but basic trims.

EyeSight’s suite of driver-assist features gets an improved camera sensor, which Subaru says expands the system’s field of view, expands its range of operations, and introduces a new Automatic Emergency Steering system into the mix.

All models now come with a torque vector system, a Subaru SI-Drive driving mode selector, an electronic parking brake with automatic restraint, and an automatic start-stop feature for a four-cylinder engine.

2023 Subaru Forester Release Date

Rumors suggest Forester could only debut in early 2023. It is estimated that the sixth-generation car will be based on the latest version of the Subaru Global Platform.

This architecture underpins all of the company’s export-oriented models except for the rear-wheel-drive BRZ coupe and the upcoming Solterra electric crossover that shares a dedicated EV architecture with the Toyota bZ4X.
