2023 Subaru WRX STI: What We Know So Far

2023 Subaru WRX STI: What We Know So Far

2023 Subaru WRX STI: What We Know So Far – The new Subaru WRX is coming. We’ve seen the STI EJ20 Final Edition, which will mark the end of the 2.0-liter four-pot-backed range of Subies over the next 30 years.

It could also spell the end for the current generation WRX, as new models are expected in 2022 or 2023. The exact time frame for the next rally driver is unclear, but here we take what it looks like.

Design-wise, we don’t think the new WRX will go too far from its current form. We imagined a slightly larger grille, with fresh headlights cutting the front fascia. In fact, the whole front face of the WRX just looks happy, but if you’re wondering where the hell this all comes from, it’s not just a random desire for a friendly, softer-looking WRX.

We’ve been waiting a long time for the Subaru WRX since the redesigned compact Impreza arrived a few years ago. But we already know a lot of information about the new model, and new rumors intersect all the time, such as a recent report from Forbes that said the WRX STI would pack a big blow: up to 400 valuable horsepower, to be specific.

2023 Subaru WRX STI Engine

The New WRX and WRX STI will use Subaru FA24 turbocharged versions of the 2.4-liter boxer-four currently installed in Ascent, Outback, and Legacy. the report circulated at least 400 horsepower and 361 lb-ft of torque for the new STIs, though, and surprisingly, given that this engine makes 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque in more plebeian applications.

Obviously, this engine will be highly tuned for the WRX and WRX STI, possibly with a larger turbocharger making more internal thrust and upgrades. We suspect the STI will only offer a six-speed manual transmission, while the standard WRX will also offer stick shifts or CVT options.

Renderings are based closely on the recently revealed 2021 Subaru Levorg Wagon. Originally exclusive to the Japanese market, Levorg has migrated to other parts of the world and we have heard his style should be very similar to the next-generation WRX. Of course, you can’t have a WRX without a large hood spoon and larger rear wings, so those features stand out here.

Actually, you can technically order your WRX sans spoiler, but we didn’t choose anything like that. If you’re going to play on the ground with an all-wheel-drive Japanese pocket rocket, you have to shout about it.

Under the skin, the next-generation WRX should have a new platform as well. circulating rumors are being developed jointly by Subaru and Toyota, and it will pack a bigger punch under the hood as well.

Replacing 2.0 liters in Japan and 2.5 liters elsewhere would be a high-output version of the FA24 2.4-liter flat-four turbo that currently serves with Legacy, Ascent, and Outback. In WRX, the plant can be bumped into 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts), although that output is possible for the IMS version.

The WRX platform will also be shared with other Subaru models, all of which go up on what the company calls its Subaru Global Platform. These basics will likely give him a lower center of gravity compared to the outgoing WRX, and the drive of all wheels will be standard, natch.

It will, of course, have stiffer suspension, larger brakes, and grippier tires compared to the Impreza, and we look forward to seeing the STIs with the iconic gold wheels.

2023 Subaru WRX STI Concept

As for the new model style, Subaru has offered some previews of what the WRX will look like in the form of Viziv performance concepts from a few years ago, and the recently revealed Japanese market Levorg wagon.

Renderings show the WRX is lower, longer, and more aggressive than today’s cars, with more differentiation than ever before to distinguish it from mainstream Impreza sedans.

2023 Subaru WRX STI Release Date and Price

Our best guess is that the new WRX will debut in 2021, which means there is a chance it will arrive in the US soon for the 2022 or 2023 model years.

STIs are likely to match the standard WRX of several months, and both models are poised to have a price increase. We bet somewhere around $30,000 for the WRX base price and upwards of $40,000 for an STI.
