2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition: What Do We Expect?

2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition

2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition – Subaru introduces a family of rugged, off-the-pavement Wilderness-badged Subaru SUVs.

First, Outback Wilderness 2022 has just debuted, which will probably be redesigned in 2023, as is the case with the Crosstrek, and next is the Subaru Forester Wilderness 2022 compact SUV that will be coming later this year.

Sources close to Subaru have revealed that the carmaker will be waiting for the next generation Crosstrek to come in 2023 to launch the all-new Wilderness trim.

The Subaru of America will be the first to get the sturdy Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness 2023. In addition, Subaru is likely to launch a robust asphalt road model in summer 2023.

The next-generation Subaru Crosstrek 2023 will get a complete overhaul with a new exterior style, upgraded interior, and possibly new turbocharged engine options.

Sources close to the Japanese automaker say a new turbocharged Crosstrek model is coming for U.S. customers.

2023 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness Engine

Outdoor enthusiasts want to see the third-generation Crosstrek 2023 offered with the option of a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine. If Subaru upgrades the Crosstrek with a 2.4-liter engine, it will be a welcome surprise and addition to the lineup.

Subaru may decide to upgrade its current naturally sucked 2.5-litre Crosstrek Boxer engine with additional horsepower.

But according to the form, the Japanese car manufacturer has not released any information about the outdoor adventure model.

2023 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness Edition Features

Like the Wilderness Outback, the Crosstrek Wilderness will likely come with a state-of-the-art dual-function X-Mode, an elevated 9.5-inch ground clearance, standard front, and rear skid plates, and improved off-road suspension.

Crosstrek Wilderness will wear 17-inch Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires and be equipped with full-size spare tires.

The new Crosstrek will also feature an automatic Lineartronic CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) and an improved rear differential.

Subaru upgraded all its models with the Boxer direct-injection turbocharged (DIT) engine, and Forester and Crosstrek were the following models in the lineup to get it.

It makes sense to use a proven 2.4-liter FA24 turbocharged engine producing 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque.

The new sub-brand Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness 2023 is expected to appear in the U.S. in spring 2023.

2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness Features

Designed to be the “most capable Outback,” wilderness edition comes with several exclusive off-road features, which you won’t find on models in this lineup.

Subaru said the suspension was even more challenging than before – though the company did not elaborate.

Then, the same dual-function X-Mode as the Onyx X.T. model – offering Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes – was also brought along.

The Wilderness Edition sits taller than the regular Outback, complete with a ground clearance of 9.4 inches versus 8.7 inches on the base model.

The new height increases the approach angle of the Outback to 20.0 degrees, the break-over angle to 21.2 degrees, and the departure angle to 23.6 degrees.

Subaru Outback Wilderness Exterior

As you probably already know, this version of Outback also gets a redesigned exterior.

That includes a new front and rear bumper that further enhances clearance, a standard front skid plate, and Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires that wrap around an exclusive 17-inch rim.

There is also an ideal Wilderness badge on the inside and outside. This special edition also gets an exclusive trim of the Geyser Blue, inspired by Subaru’s rally heritage.

Wilderness Edition’s interior is slightly different, offering black StarTex faux leather on the upholstery and unique copper-colored contrast stitching throughout.

Meanwhile, the steering wheel, shifter, and door panel wear unique Anodized Copper accents.

While the 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen and Subaru EyeSight active safety technology are both brought in from the basic version.

On the inside, you’ll see a touch of Anodized Copper trim on the steering wheel, instrument cluster, and shifter, plus copper contrast stitching in the upholstery, door panel, dashboard, and center console.

Like on the outside, all pieces of cabin chrome except for door handles have been replaced with a matte black coating.

The seats are coated in StarTex Subaru waterproof faux leather, which feels premium, looks fantastic and is practically child and dog resistant. In addition, the Wilderness logo is embossed on the headrest and standard floor mat for all weather.

All Wilderness Outbacks come with an extensive 11.6-inch infotainment system available on smaller models, and the setup was recently updated and is now easier to operate.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. In addition, drivers will be able to see the turning angle of their cart in real-time in the instrument cluster view, which is also unique to the Wilderness model.

2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness Engine

Turbocharged 2.4-liter engines (also found at Onyx Edition X.T. and Limited X.T. trim levels) are unchanged.

The unit still produces 260 horsepower (194 kilowatts) and 277 pound-feet (376 Newton-meters) of torque, managed by a continuous variable transmission.

However, Subaru said it had revised the final ratio of CVT drives, from 4.11:1 to 4.44:1.

That gives the Wilderness Edition more low-end torque on wheels than the traditional Outback – enough power to gobble up a 40 percent climb above the gravel surface.

2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness Price

Subaru has not listed a price for the Outback Wilderness Edition but promised to announce it by the end of the year officially.

If the outback price of Onyx Edition X.T. of 35,145 US dollars (Rp512 million) is indicative, wilderness edition may be priced close to 40,000 US dollars (Rp582 million).

The 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness is probably the roughest and capable Outback to date. Subaru seeks better off-road competence without disrupting the convenience of driving on sidewalks.

And if this looks ambitious for what looks like a station wagon, keep in mind: The Outback is more or less an SUV, which qualifies for the SUV of the Year competition through spaciousness, sizable ground clearance, and steady all-wheel drive.

The Wilderness Outback isn’t just about fatter looks and snout rocks; it adds a lot of hardware that targets the growing Overlanding community, making it easier to get to the trails and camp straight from the factory.

Subaru Outback Wilderness Competitors

the Subaru remains a car-based creation, so it’s best to think of the Wilderness as a closer competitor to the Toyota RAV4 Adventure or TRD Off-Road, which is more advanced than the usual model but not as powerful as a car. A 4×4 stone crawler like a Jeep Wrangler.

Perhaps the essential addition to the Wilderness Outback is the 0.8-inch suspension lift, which increases the ground clearance of the SUV/wagon to 9.5 inches.

Subaru tells us the shocks and springs in the Wilderness have been tuned to improve stability on the track without losing the pleasant driving experience on the concrete.

This means that instead of the 18-inch wheels, the Wilderness model uses 17-inch black rims wrapped in slimmer Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires, which provide better traction in treacherous terrain. All models also get full-size spare tires installed under the cargo area.

The suspension lift allows the sturdy Outback to go to places where its siblings can’t. For example, the approach angle has increased from 18.6 to 20.0 degrees, the break-over angle (a type of hump that two axes can straddle) increased from 19.4 to 21.2 degrees, and the departure angle rose from 21.7 to 23.6 degrees.

Subaru engineers also widened the front and rear tracks by 0.2 inches, helping with outback handling and establishment.

If that’s not enough, the Wilderness Outback comes as standard with a front skid plate. Still, Subaru will offer three other skid plates—the larger one in the front, one that stretches in the middle, and one for the gas tank—as an option-installed dealer.

Although at the same time, similar upgrades are already available, Wilderness’s extra off-road promise makes a better excuse to buy it.

Subaru Outback Wilderness Design Details

Wilderness outbacks not only look more macho than regular Outbacks but also add unique details. For starters, the front and rear bumpers are all-new, as are the grilles.

The wheel arch coating is much more prominent, and the designer replaced all the distinctive chrome details with a matte black trim, which can be seen on the window frame and door mirror cap.

The new six LED fog lights are exclusive to Wilderness, as are the black stickers on the hood. Finally, of course, the Copper Anodized trim throughout the exterior will help identify this as a particular model if the rough overall look or wilderness logo doesn’t convince you.

In place of the usual adjustable Outback roof racks, Wilderness gets a fixed shelf with a load capacity of 700 pounds, which should be enough to support a sleepy roof tent and camping.

The new model also features a new Subaru color — geyser blue —exclusive to Wilderness.
