2023 Subaru Levorg: What We Know So Far

2023 Subaru Levorg

2023 Subaru Levorg – Levorg was first launched in 2014 as a replacement for the Legacy wagon and was sold in several car markets.

Unfortunately, the same may apply to a new generation, which means you can forget about it to reach the United States.

The new Levorg is expected to be slightly larger than the model it replaced, measuring 187.2 inches long or 2.5 inches larger than before.

It also has a more high-tech cab complete with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.6-inch portrait-oriented infotainment screen.

With the introduction of Levorg in 2016, Australia effectively got a slightly softer version of the excellent VA WRX. Still, its confusing name made a wedge between newcomers and the rich lineage of the WRX sedan and its equivalent big boots.

The result was a tough sell, and a marketing team was forced to work hard to convince Australians that Levorg was worth seeing.

Subaru Levorg Engine

Underlying this vehicle is the modular Subaru Global Platform debuted in the latest Impreza. Simultaneously, under the hood, a new 1.8-liter turbocharged flat-4 engine was first seen in the Levorg prototype launched last October.

In Levorg’s production, the engine produces 175 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque and is paired with a continuous variable transmission.

There will be no sheet metal distributed with Impreza for the next WRX. In contrast, the WRX design may be closer to what we saw at Levorg, which in itself shows similarities to the Viziv Performance concept launched at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, an idea widely regarded as the following WRX preview.

Subaru has been silent on plans for the next WRX, but the car is expected to be marketed in 2023. Last we heard, it will receive a 2.4 liter flat-4 version that debuted in Ascent 2019.

Output is expected to reach about 300 hp in WRX and 400 hp in the car’s STI variant. Unlike Levorg, a regular manual transmission should be standard in the WRX, although CVT will likely still be available.

In his native Japan, the model has been firmly named Levorg, but, given the substandard reception of nameplate, the Australian team is likely negotiating a return to the more familiar boot badge.

When it lands locally, perhaps in 2022 or 2023, expect the new WRX Wagon to be a bespoke version that has been specially formulated for Australian tastes and demand.

Significantly, if the WRX Wagon returns, it will be another new model for Australia. The last time the iconic badge appeared in the larger trunk (technically the hatchback), it was a variant name with a third-generation GR Impreza as its model.

The switch to the WRX as a model designation in 2014 makes the Impreza a standalone line-up keeping small hatchbacks and sedans less performance-focused.

It is unknown if other markets, including Europe and the UK, are also interested in returning to more established brands and the new WRX Wagon, reviving the spirit of the previous Impreza WRX wagon.

These high-end features will also work on the next Subaru WRX and WRX STI, but it remains to be seen whether the equipment division will flow in both directions and whether Levorg high-end will get speeds of about 200kW. A power plant is expected in the Subaru WRX.

Only the 1.8-liter 130kW turbo boxer engine has been announced in Japan.

2023 Subaru Levorg Design

Offering a fresh new look that hints at the upcoming Subaru WRX and WRX STI designs, which will be revealed in 2022 and 2023, respectively, the new Subaru Levorg also gets adaptive suspension and a next-generation EyeSight X driver assistance system that uses plenty of radar sensors and cameras to keep the car on the road.

The car’s new adaptive cruising controls offer hands-free driving in traffic jams and will also change lanes and even slow down vehicles for toll gates and bends using sat-nav inputs.

2023 Subaru Levorg Price

Levorg’s Subaru wagon range currently includes four models and is priced at $37,240 for the 1.6-liter turbo GT (125kW/250Nm) and reaches $53,240 2.0-liter (197kW/350Nm) STI Sport turbo. The latter gets the same engine as the current WRX, but only an automatic CVT is offered with Levorg.
